Rodeo

Rodeo isn’t just a sport, it’s a full-on lifestyle of grit, tradition, adrenaline, and western soul. From the thunder of hooves in the arena to quiet moments behind the chutes, photographing a rodeo lets you freeze raw emotion, power, and culture in a single frame. Join me as I build a collection of images for my 2026 photo project.

Barrel racing

Rodeos are dusty, fast, and often unpredictable. Rodeo is all about motion — bucking bulls, barrel racers flying around turns, and cowboys in mid-air. Capturing sharp images that show the raw power and determination of a rider require high speeds and good angles. A big part of rodeo is what takes place on the sidelines, I’ll be looking for candid portraits of cowboys adjusting gear, kids in cowboy hats, dusty boots, weathered hands-on ropes, or the quiet intensity before a ride. These “behind-the-scenes” shots show heart and tell the full story of rodeo culture.

Bronco Busting

Safety is a priority, not only for me but for all the athletes. My goal is to build relationships with event volunteers and riders and share their images. Rodeo runs on community, I look forward to building good connections to better tell the story and access future opportunities.

My hope is that the images I shoot capture the rodeo spirit: the determination in a rider’s eyes, the bond between horse and human, and of course, western lifestyle.
